Orange Memorial Christmas Tree

The Story Behind the Tree

The Orange Community Memorial Christmas Tree has been lit the first weekend in December since 1978. The tree was donated and planted by a local couple, Irwin and Welford Sherman, in memory of their son, David. In 1985 the Rotary Club of Orange was charged with the management of the tree, which continues to this day.

The lights on the tree are symbolic and honor the memory of someone dear to you, someone you especially remember at holiday time.

Following the annual Orange Christmas Parade, the community gathers in Orange's Taylor Park to join the Orange County High School chorus in singing Christmas carols, to hear the names of those in whose memory lights on the tree have been sponsored, and then to enjoy the lighting of the tree.

Sponsor a Light on the Tree
